I’m deeply grateful to have started as a social impact volunteer at Bale Nara Lombok and become one of its founders, responsible for SDG-17 (Partnership for the Goals). This journey inspires me and gives me a strong reason to keep returning to Lombok.
I am a passionate diver with an advanced open water certificate and experience of more than thirty dives, including a live-aboard trip on the Great Barrier Reef. Volunteering allows me to combine my love for the ocean with hands-on work. It gives me a chance to protect coral reefs while gaining valuable experience.
I am a traveler from the United States with a strong love for the ocean and nature. Volunteering here gives me the chance to protect the reefs while learning new skills in conservation. It allows me to connect with the local community, contribute to sustainability, and give back to a place that has inspired me deeply.
As a volunteer, I taught Community-Based Tourism at Bale Nara Lombok’s partner campus and conducted preliminary research for the Fair Tourism Foundation in the Netherlands. I’m deeply grateful for the support of so many helpful stakeholders during my time in Lombok.
I spent six months in Lombok supporting Bale Nara Lombok while on sabbatical. Coming from South Africa, a country so different from Lombok in terms of its warmth and safety, I was truly amazed. I’ve already decided to return to this island and make it my permanent home.
