About the program

This program empowers volunteers to aid in conserving the avian biodiversity of Bagek Kembar Mangrove Ecotourism. Participants will engage in teaching birdwatching techniques and raising awareness of the importance of preserving bird habitats. By joining, volunteers will equip the community with essential conservation skills, ensuring a sustainable future.

The program combines hands-on learning with structured conservation education, focusing on bird identification, habitat analysis, and community involvement. Volunteers collaborate with stakeholders to strengthen eco-tourism and biodiversity conservation in the area, creating lasting impact.

 

Typical day

  • Morning: Capture photographs of birds in the field across an 80-hectare area.
  • Midday: Enjoy a traditional Indonesian meal with fellow volunteers and local participants.
  • Afternoon: Lead workshops focused on bird habitat preservation and raising conservation awareness.
  • Evening: Reflect on the day’s activities or participate in discussions about conservation strategies with the community.

Volunteers are responsible for arranging their own transportation from Lombok International Airport to Bagek Kembar Mangrove Ecotourism. Upon arrival, they will be welcomed and provided with an orientation to introduce their roles, daily schedules, local cultural norms, and the conservation goals of the program.

This program runs year-round, but the peak of migrant bird session occurs during January – April, requiring a minimum two-week commitment. Customized schedules can be arranged to suit volunteers’ preferences and availability.

  • Accommodation: Participants will stay in shared or private rooms during the program.
  • Meals: Three traditional meals will be provided daily throughout the program.
  • Birdwatching Equipment & Educational Resources: Professional birdwatching equipment and educational materials will be provided to enhance participants’ learning experience.
  • Flights and Transportation: Participants are responsible for the cost of flights to and from Lombok and personal transport outside of scheduled activities. They must also arrange their own transportation from Lombok International Airport to the site.
  • Travel Insurance: Participants must arrange and cover the cost of their own travel insurance.
  • Visa and Vaccination Fees: Any costs for entry visas, related documentation, and vaccinations (if required) are the responsibility of participants.
  • Personal Expenses: This includes costs for souvenirs, alcoholic beverages, optional activities, or any purchases outside the scheduled program.
  • Accommodation: Extra lodging outside the scheduled program dates is not included.
  • Medical Expenses: Participants are responsible for any healthcare costs incurred during the program.
  • Recreation and Tours: Costs for recreation or tours during free time activities are not covered.
