About the program

This volunteer program invites you to contribute to local education by teaching English in a vibrant coastal school in Lombok, Indonesia. Volunteers will play an essential role in helping students improve their language skills and enhance their communication abilities, providing them with opportunities for brighter futures.

The program offers a dynamic, hands-on experience where you’ll work alongside local teachers, assisting in various classroom activities and supporting students through one-on-one tutoring or group work. As you teach, you will also engage in cultural exchange, learning about the local traditions, customs, and way of life while sharing your own language and culture with students.

In addition to language teaching, volunteers will have the opportunity to run educational workshops and after-school activities, building students’ creativity, leadership, and teamwork skills. By contributing to the development of these young learners, you will help foster a sense of global awareness while gaining invaluable teaching experience.

Typical day

Morning Shift (8:00 AM – 12:00 PM)

  • Teaching English: Lead engaging lessons, improving students’ speaking, listening, reading, and writing skills.
  • Classroom Support: Assist in classroom management and provide extra support to students needing help.
  • Cultural Exchange: Share aspects of your culture, encouraging students to learn about the world beyond Lombok.

Midday (12:00 PM – 1:00 PM)

  • Lunch Break: Relax and enjoy lunch with fellow volunteers or engage with local teachers and students.

Afternoon Shift (1:00 PM – 3:00 PM)

  • Workshops & Extra Activities: Run creative workshops or after-school activities that focus on skill-building and teamwork.
  • Community Engagement: Interact with students and local teachers, sharing experiences and insights about global cultures.

Evening (Optional)

  • Reflection and Social Time: Gather with fellow volunteers to reflect on the day’s work and share experiences.

Requirements

Volunteers are responsible for their transportation from Lombok International Airport to the coastal school. Upon arrival, a comprehensive orientation will be provided, covering the program’s objectives, teaching methods, safety protocols, and local customs. Volunteers will also be introduced to the local community and teachers, ensuring a smooth integration into the program.

Year-round. Minimum stay: 1 week. Maximum stay: 8 weeks. (Extensions possible based on mutual agreement)

  • Accommodation: Private room in a peaceful coastal setting, close to the school.
  • Meals: Daily meals provided; access to the kitchen for preparing additional meals.
  • Laundry: Available nearby at an affordable price, with convenient service options.
  • Internet: Basic Wi-Fi connection for communication and lesson planning.
  • Certificate: Issued upon successful completion of the program, recognizing your contribution to education and cultural exchange.
  • Drinks: Daily tea, coffee, or fresh coconut water provided to keep you refreshed.
  • Flights and Transportation: Volunteers cover their travel to Lombok and local transportation (including airport transfers and scooter rental)
  • Travel Insurance: Must be arranged by each volunteer
  • Visa and Vaccination Fees: All immigration and health-related costs are the participant’s responsibility
  • Personal Expenses: Includes souvenirs, snacks, and extra meals
  • Accommodation: Extra lodging outside scheduled program dates is not included
  • Medical Expenses: Volunteers must cover their own health costs
  • Recreation and Tours: Activities like surfing or scuba diving are not included but may be arranged independently
  • Lost or Damaged Equipment: Volunteers are liable for their own gear and any loaned materials
  • Scooter Rental: Available but not covered in the program fee
